Excited for the Journey

When I started in the field of higher education over 15 years ago I had no idea the potential existed to build a company that would marry many of my passions into one career and organization. Today those passions and my background collide as I take over the role of CEO at the National Institute for Social Media (NISM). Having served within this organization previously, I am thrilled to be afforded the opportunity to reunite with previous faculty and students, as well as to help it grow into a community of exceptional professionals.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

– Nelson Mandela

At NISM it starts with education, but it doesn’t end there. The value of NISM is in the application of what our students learn, using it on the job, and continuously demonstrating these skills to drive business results. The landscape for measuring social media is ever changing and today, there is a gap between what’s required at a business level and the skills marketers have to demonstrate the value of their social media efforts. From a business perspective, a recent CMO survey reports 41.5% of marketers still have the ‘inability to tie social media to business outcomes.” From a human capital perspective, only 36.4% believe they are doing a good to excellent job hiring people skilled to perform social media activities, and 31.3% believe they are training people to perform social media activities. We have work to do to raise the bar within social media as a strategic lever and I’m confident NISM can be a catalyst to drive this change.
Filling this gap and rising to the occasion to demonstrate the value of social media is where I get most excited about the potential of NISM. Through our curriculum, assessment and certification, and community of professionals we are creating the next generation of social media experts and market expertise. I look forward to hearing from many of you, as certified professionals, future students, or just members of our growing community engaging in supportive and valuable social conversations. My door is always open, so reach out and contact me on social media, email to [email protected] or call us at 763-200-NISM
Sincerely,
Jennifer Radke
