About Us
We are a small, non-profit folk school located in the town of Marine on St. Croix, 45 minutes N.E. of the Twin Cities, situated within the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional arts, hands-on learning, and fostering creativity and connection, our mission is to enrich lives and strengthen community by inviting all people to discover the joy of creating together in a folk school tradition.
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, organized, and mission-driven individual to join our team on a part-time (approximately 20 hours/week), hybrid schedule (on-site + remote). This role supports the Executive Director, Programming, and Fundraising by driving outward-facing communication and marketing initiatives.
You’ll help elevate awareness of our programs, support class enrollment, and engage our community using digital and print outreach.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in developing and executing marketing and communication plans to promote classes and events (aligns with MMFS goals and enrollment targets), and institutional story.
· Create content for newsletters, email campaigns, social posts, flyers, event posters, website, and other digital and print material as needed.
· Manage social media – scheduling, writing, publishing across platforms including Facebook and Instagram; monitor engagement and community interactions.
· Update website content via CMS (Neon; WordPress); maintain brand style and calendar
· Design or coordinate digital and print marketing materials using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
· Support media outreach: draft press releases, develop contacts, track coverage
· Assist with event promotion.
· Measure campaign effectiveness: support simple analytic tracking (e.g. newsletter open rates, social media reach) and share insight with Executive Director and staff.
Qualifications
· 3-5 years’ experience in nonprofit or community communications, marketing, social media or related field preferred.
· Strong writing and editing skills; ability to craft compelling storytelling tailored to different audiences.
· Familiarity with email marketing tools (Mailchimp), CMS platforms (Neon), and social media management tools.
· Design and layout skills using Canva or Adobe Suite.
· Basic understanding of analytics to monitor impact and suggest improvements
· Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
· Collaborative mindset and comfort working in a small, mission-driven team with staff and volunteers.
· Passion for folk arts, education, and community building.
Work Schedule
· Approximately 20 hours per week.
· Hybrid format: on-site presence for select staff meetings, events, and project days.
· Occasional evenings or weekend hours may be required around classes and events.
Compensation & Benefits
· Hourly wage range: $25 – $30/hour, depending on experience.
· Remote flexibility.
· Opportunity to take up to 4 classes per calendar year at reduced or no cost.
