Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley (RMHC-RRV) is growing our team and hiring a Communications Specialist.

The Communications Specialist is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position that reports to the Development Director. This position is an important part of our fundraising and engagement team with specific responsibility in social media, communications, grant writing, and mission storytelling. The Communications Specialist implements the RMHC-RRV annual communication plan including, but not limited to email and print newsletters, social content, website, and other mission, fundraising and public relations related communication pieces. They oversee brand positioning and messaging, ensuring accuracy and consistency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Corporate and Brand Communications:
    • Responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive annual communications, marketing and public relations strategy. Collaborate with other staff to maintain the annual communications calendar.
    • Responsible for formulating consistent and compelling key messages for use in written and digital content to enhance brand positioning.
    • Create and manage all offline content including writing, editing and producing a diverse range of materials to engage the community.
    • Manage all online communications including website content, email campaigns, e-newsletter and social media strategies.
    • Oversee the design and production of marketing and corporate materials and ensure they meet brand standards including brochures.
    • Ensure all external communications adhere to RMHC brand and style guidelines.
    • Assist in the development of videos.
    • Responsible for grant writing and foundation tracking and reporting.
  • Social Media:
    • Coordinate and manage a dynamic and mission-centered Social Media presence and actively manage RMHC-RRV’s online reputation.
    • Develop a strategy and content calendar that best supports the organizations marketing and fundraising goals. Administer budget and implement paid advertising on social media.
    • Create and implement social media posts with a balance of information, inspiration, engagement, mediums, and calls to action.
    • Serve as community manager for all RMHC RRV social media sites and manage interactions with constituents by timely responding and engaging with social media activity.
    • Track, analyze and optimize social media data to best meet strategic objectives
    • Seek out trends, research, education and training related to PR and social media
  • Complete other tasks and duties to support our mission as assigned.

  • A can-do attitude and heart for embracing “other duties as assigned” as they relate to our strategic goals

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • 3 years of professional experience in nonprofit marketing and communications
  • Experience working with contracted designer, communication firms and commercial printers
  • Experience in project management software

Additional Details:

  • A portfolio of design and writing work will be reviewed as part of the application process for this position.
  • Minimum education requirement of a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
  • While there is the flexibility for this position to work remote from time to time, the expectation is that this position will primarily conduct their role onsite at RMHC Fargo.
  • Occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required.
  • Salary Range: $48,000 – $52,000 depending on experience.
