The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) offers a highly interdisciplinary Summer Internship Program designed to immerse students in cutting-edge biomedical research, innovation, and translation. Our unique approach brings together researchers with expertise in biomedical imaging, biosensing, biomechanics, engineered and synthetic biology, nano- and biomaterials, artificial intelligence, and informatics, creating an environment where students engage with real-world challenges at the intersection of engineering, biology, and impact.

Throughout the summer, interns will:

  • Work closely with TIBI researchers, innovators, and staff
  • Participate in hands-on projects aligned with their selected track
  • Attend workshops on research translation, scientific writing, communication, and professional development
  • Collaborate with peers across disciplines through seminars and group activities

Interns will apply to and participate in one of three tracks:
Biomedical Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, or Marketing.

Marketing Track

Designed for students interested in marketing, communications, and science storytelling within a research-driven organization.

Interns will:

  • Support marketing and communications initiatives promoting TIBI’s research and mission
  • Assist with content creation for digital platforms, newsletters, press releases, and outreach materials
  • Translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging messaging
  • Support social media strategy, content scheduling, audience engagement, and analytics
  • Assist with website updates and backend maintenance
  • Support promotion and coordination of virtual and in-person events

Marketing Program & Training (8 Weeks)

Marketing interns will follow a structured training experience that builds practical skills while supporting active campaigns:

  • Week 1: Onboarding, brand foundations, and marketing tools
  • Week 2: Content strategy and science storytelling
  • Week 3: Social media best practices and community engagement
  • Week 4: Visual and multimedia content creation
  • Week 5: Campaign support, event promotion, and outreach
  • Week 6: Analytics, performance measurement, and optimization
  • Week 7: Intern-led marketing project development
  • Week 8: Final presentation and portfolio development

Ideal for students interested in marketing, communications, digital media, science writing, or public engagement.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student at a community college or university
  • Undergraduate applicants must be Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors at the time of application
  • Prior research experience is not required
  • Demonstrated interest in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM)
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the program

Program Dates

  • Cohort: One Summer Junior Biomedical Intern cohort
  • Duration: 8 weeks
  • Session Dates: June 22, 2026 – August 15, 2026

Compensation

  • This internship is paid via a one-time stipend, issued upon successful completion of the full program

Location & Work Authorization

  • Internship will be conducted in person at TIBI’s state-of-the-art laboratory in Woodland Hills, California
  • Relocation, housing, and mileage are not provided
  • College Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is supported for eligible students
  • CPT eligibility and authorization must be obtained through the student’s academic institution prior to the internship start date
  • TIBI is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas (including H-1B, OPT, or other work visas) at this time
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States
  • TIBI is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas at this time
